Address Confusion Could Delay Emergency Response: Pouch Cove Mayor
The mayor of Pouch Cove says it’s important for residents to nail down their proper civic address incase they need to call for emergency help.
The Pouch Cove Volunteer Fire Department now responds to medical calls to provide assistance while paramedics or other help is en route.
Mayor Joedy Wall says between June 1 and September 1, they responded to 18 requests for medical calls. But he says there is some confusion as to what the names of the roadways are—something that isn’t new to the town.
Wall says residents must remember Pouch Cove Highway is not the main road through the community. He says Pouch Cove Highway is in the neighbouring community of Flatrock.
Pouch Cove Highway ends when you get to Pouch Cove. The Pouch Cove Main Road runs through the town. He says Pouch Cove Line is the road that runs from the Town Hall to the Town of Bauline, to the intersection of Bauline Line.
Wall says seconds make a difference when it comes to a lifesaving emergency call. If information given over the phone isn’t accurate, he says it takes longer for the fire department to respond.
He reminds residents to also clearly display their civic address on their homes—which is also an issue for other towns.
